Opportunity supporting HEDIS project work for a reputable KC healthcare provider! Exciting opportunity for nurses with HEDIS experience and a strong technical/analytical aptitude.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Following the HEDIS Technical Specifications, obtain, analyze, and evaluate medical record documentation submitted for HEDIS measures [annual National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) quality profile that measures quality of health care provided to members].
• Identify and label in pdf medical records all pertinent data needed to comply with HEDIS Technical Specifications.
• Assist in identifying barriers, planning interventions, and implementing activities to enhance and improve provider medical record and HEDIS documentation.
• Perform quality reviews of peer performance relating to medical record abstraction documentation.
• Review, abstract and data enter all medical record data obtained via paper, electronic, CD, fax or mail
• Conduct onsite visits to obtain, review, abstract and data enter all medical record data for groups requesting an onsite visit
• Access a variety of EMR systems to obtain and abstract medical record data per specifications
• Name and store medical record files electronically
• Fax medical record requests to provider offices if requested
• Provide patient lists to provider offices
• Accurately enter data into Electronic Medical Record Review abstraction tool
• Communicate daily with administrative support staff to review any changes in schedule
• Flex to accommodate needs of the HEDIS project


• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, information systems, business administration or other relevant academic field; or any combination of education or experience providing the types and levels of knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the job.
• Experience working on previous HEDIS projects – mainly abstraction of medical records.
• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize responsibilities with attention to detail.
• Must be self-motivated, able to take initiative, and work independently with minimal oversight to meet timelines, strong follow-through skills and a solutions-oriented attitude.
• Intermediate keyboard skills (typing, computer entry)
• Computer savvy: : Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Adobe
o Must be able to pass a prescreening test.
• Licensed RN (preferred) or LPN with 3 years nursing experience (Note: license must be current in Missouri & Kansas)
• Knowledge of medical record review process is strongly preferred
• Experience with a variety of EMR systems strongly preferred
• Ability to read and interpret medical records, including handwritten records
• Conscientious problem solver, willing to learn, takes personal pride in their work performance/accuracy
• Excellent verbal communication skills – clear, concise and appropriate
